Focus on Immune-Boosting Foods
Citrus fruits, garlic, green tea, shellfish, ginger, tumeric, and spinach and other leafy greens are all great immune-boosting foods to help you fight off colds, flus, and other illnesses. Furthermore, they'll give you the vitamins and minerals you need to thrive!
Wash Your Hands More Often
It seems like common sense, but try to wash your hands more often during the winter months. Colds, flus, and other illnesses circulate and spread during the winter. Even if you don't feel like you "need" to wash your hands, dip into a washroom or anywhere there's a sink to give them a scrub. This will ensure you're not carrying germs and are doing everything you can to fight illness.
Give Yourself A Great Sleep Each Night
Sleeping seven hours a night is always recommended, but it's especially critical during the winter months when moods can be low and immune systems can be compromised. Make sure you get lots of sleep to allow your system to reset your immunity and you'll be able to fight off illness and seasonal depression much easier.
Be Active - Even When It's Tough to Get Motivated
Moving your body keeps inflammation at bay and raises your energy levels. Find an activity you love and make a pact to do it at least once a week. Yoga, weight lifting, swimming, running or walking on a treadmill or track - whatever feels good for you!
Stay Calm, Grounded, and Enjoy Life
It's easier said than done, but at the same time, if we don't focus on it, it won't happen. Breathe deep when you're feeling stressed or down this winter and allow your parasympathetic system the time it needs to rest and reset. Life is beautiful no matter the season!
