Tara Myra - Facility Events and Sport Coordinator
It’s hard not to crack a smile when Tara’s around! As the Zatzman Sportsplex’s former bingo expert and current Facility Events and Sport Coordinator, Tara has a deep knowledge of our community and can’t go anywhere in our neighbourhood without running into a few people she knows.
Starting at the Dartmouth Sportsplex in 1995, Tara has years of experience working face-to-face with our customers, helping them experience amazing events that make memorable life moments. Before the Sportsplex closed for renovations, Tara was running the most successful bingo in Atlantic Canada! Once, she even had the honour of giving away $34,000 to a lucky winner—the biggest prize in Sportsplex Super Bingo history!
Tara’s responsibilities with Facility Events have her working in every part of the facility, ensuring everywhere from our arena to our meeting spaces are ready to host top-notch events. From conferences and concerts to parties and tournaments, Tara helps customers visualize how the Sportsplex can be the perfect venue. As the Coordinator for the Child, Youth, and Sport department, Tara oversees the development of Sportsplex day camps, childminding, and sports programs that run every season. She makes sure all our programs offer a fun and engaging environment to learn, build new skills, and reflect the needs of the community! No matter what you’re at the Sportsplex for, Tara focuses on creating a supportive environment for her employees, customers, and participants, making sure everyone has a fantastic time while you’re here.
Originally from Halifax, Tara’s pride and joy are her children, and she loves spending her free time with them playing and watching basketball, fishing, and listening to music. Tara’s favourite part of her position is bringing the Zatzman Sportsplex staff together with the community at exciting events. She’s watched community members experience some incredible life moments together, with one of her favourite Sportsplex memories being high school graduation where the graduate singing O Canada became emotional halfway through the song. “All of her fellow graduates and the hundreds of people watching the ceremony started singing the rest of the anthem out loud together,” she says. “I was standing there with my colleague, Catherine, and we just looked at each other with tears in our eyes and sang along too. It was one of those moments that really get you in the feels!”
Tara can’t wait to see the Zatzman Sportsplex grow into an even more accessible and inclusive facility. A true sports fanatic, Tara owns over one hundred Nolan Ryan baseball cards and can spin a basketball on all her fingers and thumb. If you catch her in the gym, she may be willing to show you her trick, but if anything, you can pretty well guarantee she’ll be sporting her stellar smile.
