Building Supervisor / Youth Engagement Support
Built in 1982, the Zatzman Sportsplex is a large, family-focused health, fitness, and recreation complex serving all regions of the Halifax Regional Municipality. Recently completing a $25 million revitalization project, the facility includes a running track, racquetball and squash courts, full fitness centre, an arena, and two swimming pools—with a brand-new double gymnasium and welcoming community spaces. In addition to the physical renovations, the Zatzman Sportsplex has a large-scale community outreach and accessibility program to reduce barriers, ensuring that everyone in our community can play. The Zatzman Sportsplex is seeking an energetic post-secondary student to act as Building Supervisor, as well as collaborate with our Child, Youth, and Sports Coordinator to build a positive, comfortable atmosphere for youth. This position will also involve working with our TD Youth Council. The successful candidate will be a great communicator who’s passionate about the impact recreation has on the health of our community. We’re looking for individuals who:
- Are in the midst of a post-secondary program (are entering another year of post-secondary education).
- Have 1-3 years of experience working with youth.
- Are self-motivated, organized, and comfortable collaborating with other staff.
- Enjoy working in a team setting and thrive when managing multiple priorities and goals.
- Can work flexible hours, including frequent night and weekend shifts.
- Previous experience working in a multi-faceted recreation facility.
- Enjoy working and interacting with the public, especially with youth.
- Value and respect diversity in all its forms.
Previous community involvement and knowledge of the Dartmouth community an asset. Preference will be given to candidates who have High Five, Coaching, and First Aid Certification. This is a summer position, 40 hrs/week for 10 weeks. The successful candidate must provide a criminal record and child abuse registry check. This position will work closely with the Director of Programs and Services and the Child, Youth, and Sport Coordinator. Attendance at training is mandatory.
