Cara McInnis - Marketing, Communications, and Community Development Coordinator
Before stepping in the Marketing, Communicatons, and Community Development Coordinator position, Cara completed a number of contract positions at the Sportsplex, pre-revitilization, in the Arena & Events Department. She holds a Masters in Communications & Technology from the University of Alberta, a Graduate Certificate in Events Management from Algonquin College, and a Bachelors in Community Development (formally called Recreation Management) from Acadia University. She has also received training from the International Association of Public Participation.
Cara's career has mostly been focused around tourism and recreational facilities, including working as a lifeguard and swimming instructor when she was a teenager, working as a camp councellor and a tidal bore rafting guide on the Shubenacadie River during her undergraduate, and working as an event manager for several orgnaizations across the province. Some of the projects she has worked on include trade shows, dance companies, concerts, and international trade shows. Most recently, she returned from living in Alberta where she was working for two environmental not-for-profits as a communications coordinator, and sometimes as a project manager.
A believer in life-long education, Cara is always looking for new skills to learn, and new ways of a approaching her work. When she's not at the Sportsplex, she can be found training in self defense and helping others to learn as well. She also enjoys cooking, baking, reading, a good Netflix series to binge watch with her cat, and balcony gardening in the summer.
